Aomori City Area
Nebutabayashi live performance, Haneto experience
Time required: Approximately 30 minutes
You can listen to a live Nebutabayashi performance in “Nebuta Hall” where large floats paraded in the Nebuta Festival are displayed. You can also try Haneto dancing to Nebutabayashi music, and play drums and hand cymbals. You can feel the excitement of the festival. A special performance by the Hayashi group is held on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays.

Picking apples
Time required: 30 to 60 minutes
Only a 20-minute drive from the city, towards Tashirotai. You can pick cherries, peaches, prunes, pears, apples, and chestnuts – depending on the season – from June to October.

Experience making Cassis (blackcurrant) jam
Time required: Approximately 60 minutes
You can take home Cassis Jam which you make and package yourself.
Other activities such as harvesting farm products and making miso, soba noodles and bread are also popular.

Horse Riding
Time required: 10 to 60 minutes
The Aomori Horseback Riding Club is open during all seasons, but is closed on Tuesdays. Children 4 years old or older can ride a horse. First-timers can try just the “Draft horse course,” during which a staff member pulls the horse. People who want to try steering the horse themselves can take the “Horse riding course for beginners,” in which you can ride the horse around the surrounding area after a short lesson from an instructor. Please book a day in advance if you are interested. We can accept inquiries in English by email only.

Picking blueberries
Time required: 30 to 60 minutes
You can stroll freely in the 11,000 m² garden located at the northern side of the Mount Hakkoda range, and experience picking ripe and delicious blueberries. The farm puts safety first as it does not use agricultural chemicals in growing products, but instead uses organic fertilizer.

Experience Magatama making
Time required: Approximately 60 minutes
Learn the whittling techniques of the Jomon people through making “Magatama”, accessories worn by these ancient people.
Other activities include amber pendant-making and clay figure-making.

Observation of grilled fish sausage factory
Time required: Approximately 60 minutes
You can observe the manufacturing process of grilled fish sausages called “Botanyaki” and eat freshly grilled fish sausage from the 22 m long oven.

Local Shinmachi Shopping Street Tour

Local shop owners on Shinmachi Shopping Street act as tour guides and show you the best products of various shops and fun aspects of the town. You can also try great snacks.

A Stroll Around Aomori City
A Scenic course 2 km
Visit Seikan Ferry and enjoy the scenery of Tsugaru Strait, whatever the season

The course covers many “must-sees” when you come to Aomori where you can enjoy sightseeing and find souvenirs while strolling along the beach enjoying the scenery.
B History and culture course 2.5 km
Visit the origins of Shiko Munakata and of Aomori
~ Uto Shrine and four temples in the old Teramachi Temple area ~
Time required: Approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes
The course takes you in the footsteps of our ancestors in the town, and explains local history. Visit places that have a connection with Shiko Munakata (a world-famous woodblock artist) and Osamu Dazai (a novelist) as well as Uto Shrine which was considered protector of Aomori in the past.
C Taste and shopping course 1.3 km
Look! Taste!! And explore!!!
~ Furukawa Market and the best products of each shop in the central shopping street ~
Time required: Approximately 2 hours
The course offers the opportunity to casually experience Furukawa Market which is ―hugely popular among locals, spacious streets with the feel of the Showa era, and products and atmosphere, unique to the local area.
Volunteer guides will take you to scenic and historic places in the town, introduce local specialty products, the locals’ favorite shops, and hidden attractions which most locals do not even know.

Asamushi Area
Early morning walks at Asamushi Onsen
Time required: Approximately 1 hour
Walk around tourist attractions at Asamushi Onsen with local guided for approximately one hour in the early morning.
You can enjoy the fresh morning air while visiting tourist attractions and discovering the history of Asamushi Onsen. Participants discuss and choose one course out of four courses (Akamatsu course, Lake Hotaru co urse, Hachimangu course and Mutsu Bay overlook course).

Asamushi Onsen Snow Hiking
Time required: Approximately 2 hour
Hike through the natural beauty of Asamushi in winter. The course is set at a leisurely pace suited even for beginners, and it takes you around Asamushi Onsen resort and to a lookout point where you can enjoy the uninterrupted view of Mutsu Bay.
After hiking, you can relax in a hot spring in Asamushi.

Hakkoda snow hiking
Time required: Approximately 3 hour
Hike through the white covered fields of Hakkoda wearing snow shoes. The course is suitable even for beginners, as guides will take you at a leisurely pace with plenty of breaks.
